I, Jane Boyle, am a Reiki Teacher. In North America Reiki teachers are referred to as Reiki Masters, which is misleading because it connotates enlightenment, or mastery.
The Japanese term for a Reiki Teacher is "Shinpiden", meaning Teacher, which makes more sense. As a teacher I impart information and guide, but I often learn as much from my students as they learn from me! How can we master something that is ultimately beyond our human capacity to fully understand? Reiki is not something one masters.
So having clarified my stance, what is Reiki?
The Japanese healing art of Reiki (pronounced ray-key) incorporates the laying-on of hands to the recipient's fully clothed body. During a Reiki session the practitioner channels the powerful yet gentle energy of Reiki, which works on a deep level to promote the body's remarkable ability to balance and renew itself. Reiki is non-invasive, and is therefore excellent for pain management and anxiety issues.
Reiki was developed from the spiritual practice of the great 20th century Japanese sage, Mikao Usui. The development of this healing art was influenced by Usui's practice of Tendai Buddhism and Esoteric Martial Arts, yet Reiki is not religious in nature, and can be experienced by all people, regardless of their spiritual beliefs.
During the last 40 years Reiki has gained huge popularity in North America, and is frequently offered in hospitals and hospices. Like all energy work, it is difficult to qualify or quantify Reiki's impact from a Western perspective. Indeed, only in experiencing Reiki can we really begin to understand what it's about. Reiki has an intelligence beyond words, and is in itself the best source of information!
So I, Jane Boyle, RMT am a Reiki Shinpiden.
This means that I am a Reiki practitioner and teacher. I taught Reiki Levels I and II seasonally at Sheena's Place in Toronto from 2003-2009, and I continue to teach Reiki privately.
I have practiced Reiki in hospitals, homes, clinics, rehabilitation centres, and hospices. I practice Reiki as well as Registered Massage Therapy and Reflexology at The Spa at The Port Perry Villa, 15987 Simcoe St., located in the lakeside community of Port Perry, Ontario. I also teach Reiki-infused Yoga at the Villa. For more info regarding my Reiki Level I, II and Shinpiden Level
